Public Libraries
The Public Library’s purpose is to provide information, education and cultural experiences to the community.
This year, the library will install new self-check out machines to replace older models. These will also allow customers to make payments via credit cards.
It has established relationships with the Jacksonville Zoo, Communities in Schools, Duval County Public Schools and the Jacksonville Children’s Commission as a way to develop children’s programming that promotes reading and learning.
It’s expected that 5.35 million people will use the library and circulate more than 9.55 million items this fiscal year, and more than 224,000 people will attend library programs. Currently 363 fulltime employees work in the Jacksonville Public Library system.
Budget
The total budget, which includes the General Fund and a Special Revenue Fund, for the Jacksonville Public Library is $41,939,848.
The General Fund - GSD budget is $41,789,848.
