2010/2011 Budget Hearing Meeting Dates

Notice is hereby given that Finance Chair, Daniel Davis will meet with the Finance Committee members in Council Chambers located at 117 W. Duval St., 1st Floor, St. James Building on the following dates to discuss the 2010-2011 Budget.

Thurs., 8/12/10 – 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (break from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.)

Thurs., 8/19/10 – 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (break from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.)

Thurs., 8/26/10 – 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (break from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.)

Department of Recreation and Community Services

This department provides services to the community varying from parks and recreation programs to heath and human resources that meet the basic needs of the most vulnerable people in our community.

Divisions include:

  • Office of the Director – Oversees the department as well as serving as liaison to the Jacksonville Children’s Commission, Public Libraries, Human Rights Commission and Medical Examiner and includes the Special Events Office, The Ritz Theatre and LaVilla Museum, the Cooperative Extension Services, and Grant Compliance.
  • Adult Services – Provides services to older citizens to support productive and healthy living.
  • Behavioral and Human Services – Provides mental health services, substance abuse services and emergency financial assistance to citizens in need, and advocates for crime victims.
  • Recreation and Community Programming– Provides recreational opportunities to the city’s residents.
  • Military Affairs, Veterans and Disabled Services – Serves members of armed services, veterans, military families and the disabled.
  • Waterfront Management and Programming – Protects and maintains environmentally sensitive and culturally significant land.

Budget:

The total budget, which includes the General Fund, Special Revenue Funds, and Other Funds, for the Recreation and Community Services Department is $57,415,404.

The General Fund - GSD budget is $50,921,555.
