2010/2011 Budget Hearing Meeting Dates

Notice is hereby given that Finance Chair, Daniel Davis will meet with the Finance Committee members in Council Chambers located at 117 W. Duval St., 1st Floor, St. James Building on the following dates to discuss the 2010-2011 Budget.

Thurs., 8/12/10 – 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (break from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.)

Thurs., 8/19/10 – 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (break from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.)

Thurs., 8/26/10 – 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (break from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.)

Office of the Director, Recreation and Community

This office provides executive, administrative and management direction to all divisions in the Recreations and Community Services Department.  It works as a liaison for the city with the Jacksonville Children’s Commission, Public Libraries, Human Rights Commission and Medical Examiner.  It also manages the Special Events Office, The Ritz Theatre and LaVilla Museum, the Cooperative Extension Services, and Grant Compliance, Park Development. This division has 46 employees.

The Special Events office will continue to plan and implement activities that contribute the Jacksonville’s quality of life including events that highlight downtown, the Fourth of July Celebration, Starry Nights, Georgia-Florida Football Classic, Jacksonville Jazz Festival, Jacksonville Light Parade, among many other events that collectively bring in more than $200 million of economic impact every year.

The Grants Compliance Unit, which also falls under this office’s purview, will administer 57 public grants, eight Jacksonville Journey programs, four trust fund programs, one YouthBuild Grant and four Justice Assistance grants.

In 2010, the budget for the Recreation and Community Services Department is $16,685,852.
