Early Literacy

The Mayor’s Early Literacy Initiative, RALLY! Jacksonville, prepares children to start school by improving the quality of learning at childcare centers throughout the city.  Among other programs, this initiative includes The Mayor’s Book Club, a program that provides books and other materials to every 4-year-old in Duval County.

Another vital component of the initiative is the Early Literacy Teams.  These teams help prepare children to succeed before they enter primary school by improving the skills of the early learning caregiver and improving the early learning environment. This division has 21 employees.

Budget:

In 2010, the budget for Early Literacy is $3,853,727.
