2010/2011 Budget Hearing Meeting Dates

Notice is hereby given that Finance Chair, Daniel Davis will meet with the Finance Committee members in Council Chambers located at 117 W. Duval St., 1st Floor, St. James Building on the following dates to discuss the 2010-2011 Budget.

Thurs., 8/12/10 – 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (break from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.)

Thurs., 8/19/10 – 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (break from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.)

Thurs., 8/26/10 – 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (break from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.)

Office of General Counsel

The Office of General Counsel provides legal services to the Consolidated City of Jacksonville, including its boards, commissions and independent agencies. Its mission is to provide efficient and effective transactional and litigation legal support to the city’s many departments and agencies; and to accomplish this through the hiring and retention of exceptional legal talent, the use of modern technology, the use of paralegals, and the contributions of law clerks and interns participating in the Office’s Municipal Law Clinic.

The Office of General Counsel includes the following areas:

  • Duval Legislative Delegation – Provides support services to state senators and representatives serving Duval County. Serves as a liaison between these officials and the citizenry.
  • Ancillary Legal Charges – A clearing house for the payment of litigation and professional services to the city.
  • Ethics Office – Ensures that employees and elected officials comply with local and state laws, as well as with the city’s ethics code.
  • Governmental Operations – Provides transactional support to the departments and agencies of the Consolidated Government.
  • Real Estate and Contracts - Provides transactional support to the departments and agencies of the Consolidated Government needing dealing in real estate and preparing contracts.
  • General Litigation – Represents the Consolidated Government in all claims and actions excepting personal injury claims.
  • Personal Injury - Represents the Consolidated Government in all claims and actions involving personal injuries.
  • Land Use and Environmental – Addresses all of the Consolidated Government’s zoning, land use, and environmental legal concerns.
  • Legislative Affairs – Provides transactional support for the City Council and Duval Legislative Delegation for the enactment of ordinances, resolutions and Charter revisions.

Budget:

The total budget, which includes the General Fund and an Internal Service Fund for General Counsel is $10,019,192.

The General Fund - GSD budget is $326,841.
