2010/2011 Budget Hearing Meeting Dates

Notice is hereby given that Finance Chair, Daniel Davis will meet with the Finance Committee members in Council Chambers located at 117 W. Duval St., 1st Floor, St. James Building on the following dates to discuss the 2010-2011 Budget.

Thurs., 8/12/10 – 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (break from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.)

Thurs., 8/19/10 – 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (break from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.)

Thurs., 8/26/10 – 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (break from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.)

Fire Prevention Division

This division conducts fire and life safety inspections, reviews new construction plans for fire code compliance, conducts public education programs and investigates fires for cause. This division has 26 employees.

This year grant money will be used to conduct a fire extinguisher training program. Grant money is being sought to replace aging inspector laptops and to purchase handheld devices. The division’s goal is to educate 70,000 people about fire safety information.

Budget:

In 2010, the budget for this division $3,162,050.

This division will install 625 smoke detectors this year, almost doubling the number installed in 2009.
