Emergency Preparedness
The Emergency Preparedness Division develops and administers critical emergency management plans for mitigating natural and man-made emergencies, such as severe weather events. This division oversees the Duval County Emergency Operations Center. Because Jacksonville has been designated by Homeland Security as a high-risk urban area, its responsibilities also include managing and coordinating homeland security preparedness programs for 13 surrounding counties. This division has seven employees.
This fiscal year, division staff will secure funding for various homeland security grants by seeking increased funding from FEMA through mitigation grants. It will seek City Council approval of an updated Duval County Local Mitigation Strategy and update the Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan. Emergency Preparedness will also continue to recruit and train citizens for the Community Emergency Response Teams.
Budget:
In 2010, the budget for this division is $1,186,955.
