2010/2011 Budget Hearing Meeting Dates

Notice is hereby given that Finance Chair, Daniel Davis will meet with the Finance Committee members in Council Chambers located at 117 W. Duval St., 1st Floor, St. James Building on the following dates to discuss the 2010-2011 Budget.

Thurs., 8/12/10 – 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (break from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.)

Thurs., 8/19/10 – 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (break from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.)

Thurs., 8/26/10 – 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (break from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.)

Environmental Quality Division

This division monitors and regulates air and water quality in the city with an emphasis on pollution control.  It enforces Federal, State, and Local laws related to air, noise, odors, water, wells, underground storage tanks and hazardous waste.  There are 110 employees in the division. The division is also under contract with the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) to perform certain regulatory functions within Duval County.

In accordance with The River Accord, the water quality of the St. Johns River and its tributaries are sampled and clean-up activities are managed to meet regulatory requirements.    The division also measures air quality at 11 monitoring stations in Duval County to demonstrate compliance with federal air quality standards.  The division is responsible for enforcing the new irrigation and fertilizer ordinances.

In 2010, the budget for this division is $8,317,249.

Did You Know?

In addition to over 700 calls for noise-related complaints, the division expects to respond to more than 300 emergency calls in 2010 for hazardous material and fuel spills resulting from motor vehicle and other accidents.
