Budget Workshops: What to Expect
How can I register for a workshop?
Go to the registration page of this Web site to request a seat at an upcoming workshop. Seats are limited to 88 participants per workshop and each service-area table is limited to 8 participants. Your registration will be confirmed by e-mail or telephone. We cannot guarantee seats to those who do not complete the pre-registration process.
What do I need to bring to the workshops?
Once your registration date and service area is confirmed, you will receive a packet of information via e-mail or mail to your home address. Please review the information provided and bring it with you, along with your questions and notes, to your assigned workshop.
What will happen at the workshop?
You will be directed to the service-area table confirmed at registration, and will have a chance to discuss with city leaders and other residents the various services offered by that government department. You will then be asked to rank those services according to your own priorities.
The mayor will also give a brief overview of the city’s current budget status. The entire workshop is expected to last two hours.
What service areas of government will be discussed at the workshop?
Planning & Development, Fire & Rescue, Public Works, Recreation, Community Services, Housing, Public Libraries, Environmental & Compliance, Jacksonville Children’s Commission, Office of the Sheriff and the Jacksonville Economic Development Commission.
What happens after the workshop?
The data collected at each budget workshop will be tallied, and a report highlighting the results of the workshop will be posted on the Web site and given to the Mayor’s Office. This process allows the city to gain insight into residents’ priorities for government services.
Mayor's Message
"With an annual budget of more than $1 billion, the City of Jacksonville is tasked..."
